Controllers

Valve mounted controllers from Phoenix Controls provide all the I/O and precision airflow control schemes where directional airflow is important.

There are several control platforms available from Phoenix Controls:

Each has unique features designed specifically for the control applications where it is intended to be used.

Celeris® Valve Controller

Celeris® valve mounted controller – Each Celeris valve body has its own controller that is configured on the job site to perform specific valve level and room level control, as well as report information it knows about itself and the functions it is performing to the BMS. Designed for high-performance lab applications, each valve controller monitors a flow feedback potentiometer and provides actuation control for repositioning the valve for air flow control. With three actuation options:

  • High-speed electric – an electric motor is used to reposition the valve to any point in its flow range typically in less then one (1) second with little or no overshoot. On board capacitors store electrical energy in order to driver the valve to a predefined fail-safe position in the event of a loss of power.
  • High-speed pneumatic – an onboard solenoid valve uses 20 psi of air pressure and to either fill, or bleed air from a valve mounted pneumatic actuator to achieve 1-second speed of response flow control. Based on its mounting orientation the pneumatic actuator provides fail-safe operation during power loss conditions
  • Standard-speed electric – intended for non-fume hood applications, this actuator repositions the valve using an electric damper actuator. While speed of response is not an issue in non-fume hood applications, this actuator option still provides precision airflow control in applications where directional airflow control is important. Fail-safe for loss of power is to maintain last commanded position.

Every Celeris valve controller includes inputs and output circuitry for monitoring and controlling local sensing and control devices such as temperature sensors, reheat coil actuators and occupancy sensors. There are:

  • Three (3) universal inputs for connecting voltage, current or resistive sensing devices
  • One (1) digital inputs for connecting occupancy sensors or alarm contacts
  • Two (2) analog outputs for connecting modulating actuators and control elements
  • One (1) digital output for connecting two-state actuators and alarm annunciators
  • Different control applications are downloaded to the valve controllers that provide instructions about which functions the valve controller is responsible for such as fume hood control, temperature control or zone balance control. Celeris valve controllers use the room-level control network to pass data back and forth in order to implement the desired control strategy. The peer to peer control architecture of the room level network allows the control schemes to be very basic or extremely sophisticated.

Theris® Room Controller

The Theris® single board room controller is offered as a LonMark certified controller or a BTL certified native BACnet controller and incorporates all of the room level control functionality into a single, economical valve mounted controller. Designed for Healthcare applications such as patient rooms, isolation rooms, surgical suites and hospital pharmacies the Theris controller modulates both the supply and exhaust valves from a single device.

Each Theris room controller has the ability to provide actuation and flow control for both the supply and tracking exhaust valve using a standard speed electric actuator – in one controller

The Theris controller is available in four configurations:

  • Theris-SO/EO (stand alone valve with controller)
  • Theris-TP (tracking pair)
  • Theris-TX (enhanced tracking pair)
  • Theris-CV (constant volume)

The Theris controller provides all the input and output connections required for healthcare applications:

  • Depending on the control configuration controllers provide connection points for voltage, current or resistive sensing elements
  • Inputs for connecting occupancy sensors or alarm contacts
  • Outputs for connecting modulating actuators and control elements
  • Output for connecting two-state actuators and alarm annunciators
  • Triac outputs for control of a floating point reheat actuator

Configurable control applications provide Theris the flexibility to be configured for a wide variety of ventilation, space pressurization, temperature, humidity and occupancy control applications. Additional control modes for room-level and valve level control allow for preconfigured pandemic, recirculation, return, shut-off (decontamination) or fan failure modes.

Constant Volume

Theris-CV is also available as a constant volume air solution without the need for an electronic controller.

The highly configurable control platforms from Phoenix Controls provide the I/O and control functions necessary to provide superior ventilation and comfort control in applications requiring precision airflow control. The Theris control platform leverages the accuracy, stability and reliability of the Accel® Venturi valve.

Traccel® Room Controller

Now offered as a BACnet or LonMark Certified controller

The Traccel® single board room controller is offered as a LonMark certified controller or a BTL certified native BACnet controller and incorporates all of the room level control functionality into a single economical valve mounted controller. Designed for Life Science applications which typically do not include VAV fume hood applications the Traccel controller modulates both the supply and exhaust valves from a single device.

Each Traccel room controller has the ability to provide actuation and flow control for both the supply and tracking exhaust valve using a standard speed electric actuator – in one controller.

The Traccel room controller is available in three configurations:

  • Traccel-SO/EO
  • Traccel-TP (tracking pair)
  • Traccel-TX (enhanced tracking pair)

The Traccel controller provides all the input and output connections required for Life Science applications:

  • Depending on the control configuration controllers provide connection points for voltage, current or resistive sensing elements
  • Inputs for connecting occupancy sensors or alarm contacts
  • Outputs for connecting modulating actuators and control elements
  • Output for connecting two-state actuators and alarm annunciators
  • Triac outputs for control of a floating point reheat actuator

Configurable control applications provide Traccel the flexibility to be configured for a wide variety of ventilation, space pressurization, temperature, humidity and occupancy control applications. Additional control modes for room-level and valve level control allow for preconfigured purge, decommission, decontamination or fan failure modes.
