Network Integration

Depending on the control platform chosen and the Building Management Systems architecture, Phoenix Controls offers different solutions for seamlessly integrating the laboratory or healthcare control system to the front end system. Integrating the Celeris, Theris and Traccel systems to the BMS provides the opportunities for:

  • Comprehensive remote monitoring and diagnostics
  • Easy identification of potential operating issues
  • Report generation through the BMS, such as alarm monitoring, safety analysis and energy use
  • Remote control and initiation of energy saving control schemes
  • Remote fume hood sash management monitoring

Designed around the concept that each pressurized space operates as an independent, local control network, these local control networks may be connected together to create a floor-level or building-level communications network, which ultimately connects to the enterprise-wide network and the BMS. The three integration protocols offered are:

BACnet® IP or Ethernet– The Celeris® , Theris® and Traccel® valve mounted controllers may be integrated through one or more of our MicroServer or MacroServer BACnet data servers

LonTalk® – The Theris and Traccel LonMark certified single board controllers may be connected directly to an available open FTT-10 LonTalk channel offered by the BMS

BACnet MS/TP– The Theris and Traccel BTL certified, single board controllers may be connected to any available BACnet MS/TP LAN segment

Regardless of which approach you take, all flow, temperature, humidity, occupancy and alarm data is available to the BMS. Present values may be read, and if configured for BMS control, set points may be written in order to provide remote control of temperature, humidity and ventilation set points.

BACnet IP or Ethernet

For BACnet integration there are two options for integration

  • The MacroServer designed for large scale integration supporting up to 6,000 BACnet objects, or approximately 1200 devices.
  • The MicroServer designed for small to medium scale integration supporting up to 350 BACnet objects, or 35 devices.

The MicroServer and MacroServer include utilities to discover the Celeris, Theris and Traccel devices on the network and to map the desired points to BACnet objects. They also support BACnet auto-discovery services to allow the BMS vendor to quickly identify devices and points associated with the Phoenix Controls system and map them into their system. We support both the basic polling services as well as the more advanced and network efficient subscription services to facilitate data exchange.

MacroServers and MicroServers may be combined on the BACnet as required to integrate the systems. LonWorks Routers and Repeaters are used to create logical room-level subnets or LANs and create the floor-level or building-level to connect all the room-level devices to the MicroServer or MacroServer.

LonTalk

The Theris and Traccel LonMark Room Controllers are designed for use primarily on an open LON network. The Theris and Traccel Room Controllers are certified to the LonMark standard SCCVAV Object type 8502 as a Space Comfort Controller, Variable Air Volume Functional Profile.

The Theris and Traccel Room Controllers communicate on the 78 K FTT-10 communications channel, which will connect directly to the BMS LonWorks compatible floor- or room-level controller. Standard LonWorks guidelines for the number of devices and network topologies apply. For larger installations, LonWorks routers and repeaters may be used to extend the network.

BACnet MS/TP

The Theris and Traccel BACnet Room Controllers are designed for use primarily on a Native BACnet MS/TP network. The Theris and Traccel Room Controllers are BTL (BACnet Testing Laboratories) certified as a B-ASC level device (B-ASC = BACnet-Application Specific Controller).

The Native BACnet Room Controllers communicate directly from device to device on a 76.8 Kbps MS/TP LAN segment.

Points available for integration

Celeris, Theris and Traccel Controllers support a large complement of network variables available to pass flow, ventilation, temperature, humidity, occupancy and alarm data to the BMS system. Ventilation, temperature and humidity set points are also exposed to allow the BMS remote control over the spaces under our control. The following documents detail the points available for integration:
